creativity list

Today's yogathought comes from the fab little book Dream It. List It. Do It.

"Being creative isn't about makinga masterpiece. In fact, it's not really about outcomes at all. Being creative is about process--it's about letting your imagination take you on an exhilarating ride with every ounce of your attention so caught up in the moment that the hours slip away like minutes. Don't wait around for divine inspiration or a visit from the greek muses. Get out your watercolors and try to capture the light in your garden. Sketch a design and silk-screen it on a T-shirt. Or simply cut up old magazines and glue the words and photos into a collage to hang in your bedroom. Create something from nothing--the finished product could be terrifying or terrific, but the experience is guaranteed to be thrilling.

*Sketch one thing every day
*Play, record, mix, and produce my own music
*Design my own tattoo
*Fill every notebook I own with new ideas
*Write a children's book
*Refashion a really funky T-shirt
*Publish a coffee table book of my photography
*Make homemade candles
*Crochet an afghan
*Design and make my own jewelry
*Landscape my yard
*Design and print my own stationery"

How do you get your creative juices flowing?

whether my creative juices are flowing or not, I have to force them in somehow from 8-5 everyday i'm a production artist for an ad agency. So most of the time when I get home, I don't want to be creative - I just want to be. On the days where I can't stop the creative flow - I love photography!
I do want to do some sewing crafts, but I just don't have the patience for any crafts. lol

I totally get inspired by being part of a group. I'm doing Wreck this Journal now with Jamie Ridler's book group, and it is eyepopping what everyone comes up with, and really spurs me on. If I sit at my kitchen table alone to write ... ugh! But when I go to a workshop or write with a group, or even just a friend or 2 at a coffee shop, where I know I will get to share mine and hear their's? I'm on fire!

Thanks for asking Diva ... I've gotten myself all excited just answering your question ;) It's good to have awareness about our own processes.

Ooooo! I like this list! So *really* cool ideas!

Thanks for sharing :-)

My creative juices have been dried up for quite some time now ~ in favor of surviving a mid-life crisis :-0
I do gain inspiration from being with others (we had a fun collaging night recently!).

Definitely want more creativity in my life, as I am guilty of substituting other energies for that.

Thanks for the encouragement :-)

These are fantastic ideas! In fact, I just made a collage out of magazine clippings, just to make something and lift my spirits a bit. I love doing stuff like that!
